Elbit Systems Ltd has announced a contract award valued at approximately $260 million from Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus DS) to supply its J-MUSIC™ Directed Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM) systems for the German Air Force’s A400M transport aircraft. The contract, to be carried out over six years, follows a procurement decision by Germany’s Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations (BAAINBw).

The J-MUSIC™ DIRCM system is part of Elbit’s MUSIC™ product line, engineered to protect aircraft from infrared-guided missile threats, especially those launched by man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). Utilizing advanced laser technology and high-resolution imaging, the system autonomously detects, tracks, and neutralizes incoming missiles in real time—without the need for pilot or crew action. Its modular, scalable design allows integration with a wide array of aircraft types and missile warning systems, while its compact size minimizes impact on aircraft performance and payload.
