Sweden’s defense procurement agency has finalized a 5.3-billion kronor ($500 million) agreement with Saab to supply four Gripen fighter jets to Thailand.
The package includes three Gripen E and one Gripen F aircraft, along with equipment, training, and long-term support. Deliveries are expected between 2025 and 2030.
Thailand’s procurement committee chose the Gripen over the F-16 after a 10-month evaluation concluded in August 2024. The purchase received approval earlier this month, following border clashes with Cambodia that left more than 40 dead.
The acquisition supports Thailand’s long-term modernization plan for the Royal Thai Air Force, which already operates 11 Gripen C/D fighters and several F-16s acquired in the 1980s.
