Saab has secured a contract worth about 550 million Swedish kronor ($58.5 million) to supply its Giraffe 4A radar system and associated services to a customer in Latin America. This marks the company’s first regional sale of the land-based Giraffe 4A configuration.

The Giraffe 4A, introduced in 2014, is a mobile, multi-role radar designed for air defense, surveillance, and military air traffic management. It can track a wide range of targets—including aircraft, drones, missiles, and artillery fire—at distances of up to 400 kilometers (249 miles).

Offering 360-degree coverage, the system updates threat positions every second, or up to eight times per second when focused on a specific axis. It can be deployed in under 10 minutes by a two-person crew and is transportable via platforms such as the C-130 Hercules, A400M Atlas, and C-17 Globemaster III.
