The US Army has signed a contract worth around $46 million with Sweden’s Saab for an unspecified number of Giraffe 1X radar systems.
The acquisition, part of efforts to support security cooperation partners, will see deliveries commence in 2026.
Weighing under 150 kilograms (330 pounds), the compact and lightweight Giraffe 1X 3D radar enables fast deployment across multiple platforms, including vehicles, ships, or fixed sites.
Designed for continuous, real-time air surveillance, it can track incoming missiles and enemy drones over long distances and integrates seamlessly with command-and-control systems for data sharing.
