The US Marine Corps has selected Global Military Products to supply its Scorpion Light 81mm mobile mortar system, strengthening the Corps’ capacity to deliver fast and precise indirect fire support during distributed littoral operations. While financial details were not revealed, the contract follows the system’s assessment during the October Transformation in Contact 2.0 exercises, which allow Marines to test emerging technologies in realistic conditions before wider procurement decisions.

The Scorpion Light is mounted on the Polaris MRZR Alpha 6×6 platform from Polaris Government & Defense and is engineered for rapid “shoot-and-scoot” missions. Capable of firing eight rounds and relocating in less than two minutes, it enhances mobility without hindering maneuver elements. The system incorporates an automated digital fire control suite for swift target acquisition and re-targeting with minimal crew input, and supports Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact capability. It is also compatible with third-party fire control systems, enabling integration with diverse command networks. Transportable internally by a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey or Boeing CH-47 Chinook, the combined mortar and vehicle platform allows quick deployment to remote areas. Originally developed in the mid-2010s by Spanish firm Milanion NTGS, the Scorpion Light has been fielded by French Special Forces and operators in Saudi Arabia and India, and is currently in operational use in Ukraine.
