The United States has awarded Raytheon a $183.7 million contract to provide new hardware and support for the MIM-104 Patriot air and missile defense system under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program case for the United Arab Emirates. The firm-fixed-price agreement covers procurement of Patriot equipment along with installation, inspection, logistics support, and program management services through March 3, 2031. Work will be carried out in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, United States and funded using fiscal year 2026 FMS resources allocated at the time of contract award.
The Patriot system remains a key component of advanced air and missile defense, capable of detecting and intercepting aircraft, cruise missiles, and tactical ballistic missiles. Over the past year, Washington has approved several Patriot-related FMS deals aimed at strengthening allied air defense networks. In April 2025, the U.S. Department of State cleared a potential $280 million Patriot sale to Romania to improve its ability to counter cruise and ballistic missile threats, including radar units, launch stations, and command equipment.
Additional approvals followed later in the year. In November 2025, a $105 million Patriot sustainment package was authorized for Ukraine to support launcher upgrades, spare parts, and logistics services for operational systems. Meanwhile, Kuwait secured two major Patriot approvals, including a potential $400 million upgrade and support package in April 2025 and a further authorization of up to $800 million in January 2026 for sustainment, maintenance, training equipment, and technical assistance under the FMS framework.
