FN America has secured a $9.9-million contract to deliver more M240B medium machine guns to the US Army and Navy, extending the service life and production of a platform that has been widely used by American forces for decades.

The weapons will be manufactured at FN America’s facility in Columbia, South Carolina. Company officials highlighted that the contract continues a longstanding relationship with the US Department of Defense, noting that the original M240 program marked the company’s first military contract and the first firearm produced at its South Carolina manufacturing plant.

The M240B, chambered for 7.62×51mm NATO ammunition, is widely used by infantry units to provide sustained suppressive fire. It incorporates a cold hammer-forged barrel with a hard-chromed bore to improve durability and maintain accuracy during extended firing.

FN America states that the weapon has a maximum range of 3,725 meters and features a robust steel receiver equipped with a MIL-STD-1913 rail, allowing soldiers to attach optical sights and other accessories.

Manufacturing of the M240 platform for US forces began in the late 1970s, when FN started producing firearms domestically. Since then, the company says it has delivered millions of weapons to the US military.

The latest award adds to several recent small-arms contracts secured by FN America. In July 2025, the firm won a $4.9-million deal to supply the M240L lightweight medium machine gun, a lighter variant of the standard platform, to the US Army.

Earlier in March 2025, the Defense Logistics Agency awarded the company a contract worth up to $39.6 million to provide barrels for both M240 and M249 machine guns, supporting maintenance and sustainment across multiple branches of the US armed forces.

Previously, in June 2021, FN America secured a $92.1-million contract to produce M240 series machine guns and spare receivers for the US Army.
