Pilatus Aircraft has chosen Thales Group to provide a radio management system for its PC-7 military training aircraft used across Europe.

Engineers from both firms worked closely to develop a solution tailored to the operational needs of the PC-7 program. The system is designed to support a wide range of missions—from pilot training to tactical operations—while integrating seamlessly with various onboard mission systems.

It is also built to perform reliably in demanding environments, ensuring secure and continuous communications. Pilatus’ decision reflects confidence in Thales, which strengthened its cockpit connectivity and secure communications portfolio after acquiring Cobham Aerospace Communications in 2024.

Originally introduced in the late 1970s, the PC-7 trainer evolved into the modern PC-7 MKX, unveiled in 2021. The updated aircraft features a cockpit designed to replicate modern combat jets, incorporating digital avionics, a head-up display, and an integrated training ecosystem that includes simulators and ground-based systems.

Powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6A-25C engine delivering 700 horsepower, the aircraft can reach speeds of up to 555 km/h and operate at altitudes of 25,000 feet. The PC-7 is currently in service with, or on order by, several European countries, including France, Netherlands, and Switzerland.
