Rolls-Royce Power Systems has secured a contract to deliver 200 mtu PowerPacks for the German Armed Forces’ Puma infantry fighting vehicles. Each unit incorporates enhanced cooling systems, updated power electronics, and a 10V 890 engine generating over 1,000 horsepower. This 10-cylinder propulsion system allows the Puma to achieve speeds of up to 70 km/h and an operational range of approximately 600 kilometers, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.
Described by Rolls-Royce as one of its largest military orders, the deal underscores Germany’s continued dependence on the company’s propulsion solutions for high-mobility combat operations. The contract follows Berlin’s investment of more than $4 billion in additional Puma IFVs, part of a program led by a Rheinmetall–KNDS joint venture. The 200 new vehicles will be equipped with Rafael’s Spike LR anti-tank guided missiles, adding to Germany’s existing fleet of around 350 Puma platforms, most of which have been in service since 2013.
