France has finalized the delivery of armored personnel carriers to the Lebanese Armed Forces, honoring its commitment to enhance Lebanon’s ground mobility capabilities. The package includes 39 Armored Forward Vehicle (VAB) platforms, originally designed for the French military and operational since the 1980s.
The transfer ceremony was held at the port of Beirut, attended by French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro, Lebanese Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Hassan Audi, and senior representatives from both countries. During the event, Lebanese officials emphasized the strengthening bilateral relationship and reiterated their commitment to ensuring national security.
French President Emmanuel Macron had announced the VAB transfer in late March as part of a broader initiative to support Lebanon in protecting its territorial integrity and civilian population.
Lebanon continues to grapple with ongoing security and humanitarian challenges amid rising regional tensions. The reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in March 2026 further intensified the situation, prompting Hezbollah to launch strikes against Israel. Since the 1980s, Hezbollah has received backing from Iran and is widely considered part of a broader network opposing Israeli and Western influence in the region.
