The US Army has awarded Raytheon a $904.6 million contract for the low-rate initial production of Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensors (LTAMDS). The contract includes five radar systems, six spare units, along with associated hardware, software, services, and documentation.

This award modifies an existing $2.1 billion framework agreement signed in 2024, under which additional procurements have already been made, including a $1.02 billion order last February and a $1.7 billion contract in 2025—bringing the total program value to approximately $5.3 billion. Production and related activities for the current contract will be carried out at Raytheon’s facility in Andover, Massachusetts, with completion expected by August 2031. Oversight will be handled by the Army’s contracting command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

The LTAMDS radar was initiated in 2017 to replace legacy sensors used in the Patriot missile system. It offers full 360-degree coverage, supports simultaneous tracking of multiple threats, and is capable of detecting high-speed targets traveling at Mach 5.

To support development, Raytheon partnered with TTM Technologies for radio frequency and electronic systems work. The company also invested $53 million in October 2025 to expand its Andover production facility, increasing capacity as global demand for LTAMDS continues to grow.
