Bharat Dynamics Limited has reached a significant milestone in indigenous defence production with the delivery of India’s first production-grade wire-guided heavyweight torpedo to Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam.

Developed jointly under the DCPP program, the torpedo is available in both practice and combat configurations. It incorporates a fiber-optic wire-guidance system paired with active-passive acoustic homing, enhancing precision and target engagement capability.

This achievement strengthens the Indian Navy’s operational effectiveness and represents a major step forward in India’s push for self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in advanced naval weapon systems.

With this development, India joins an elite group of just eight countries capable of producing sophisticated heavyweight torpedoes.
