Canada is expanding its sovereign defense manufacturing capabilities after selecting Magellan Aerospace to produce the M72 Light Anti-Tank Weapon for the Canadian Armed Forces. The contract marks an important milestone in the country’s effort to establish domestic production of essential military equipment while strengthening long-term supply chain security. Local manufacturing of the M72 LAW will reduce dependence on overseas suppliers, improve availability of critical munitions, and support Canada’s wider objective of building a resilient defense industrial base that complements NATO and North American security requirements. The M72 LAW has earned a global reputation as one of the most successful shoulder-fired anti-tank weapons ever developed. Designed to defeat armored vehicles, bunkers, and other fortified targets, the lightweight disposable launcher has remained in operational service for decades due to its simplicity, portability, and combat effectiveness. Measuring 881 millimeters in length and chambered in 66mm, the weapon continues to prove its value in modern conflicts, demonstrating why Canada considers domestic production a strategic investment in future military readiness.
