The UK Ministry of Defence is moving to adapt retired Warrior infantry fighting vehicles into optionally crewed mine-clearance systems controlled remotely.

Known as Project ATTILA, the effort will begin with six modified Warriors equipped with ploughs, rollers, or line charges to clear minefields during operations in the UK and overseas.

A follow-on phase will explore autonomous capabilities and establish guidelines for future unmanned ground vehicle programs.

The £12 million ($16 million) deal covers January 2026 to March 2028, with a possible one-year extension. The UK currently fields about 359 Warriors, with 80 more awaiting disposal, as the fleet heads toward replacement by the Boxer IFV by 2030.

With their robust armor and tracked mobility, Warriors offer a practical base for conversion into expendable platforms designed to breach enemy defenses.

The project underscores a growing trend among Western militaries to employ uncrewed solutions for demanding battlefield missions.
