India has approved the establishment of a National Military Drone Technology Hub in Uttar Pradesh with an investment of 5 billion rupees ($52.9 million), marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s indigenous drone and counter-drone ecosystem.

The facility will be located at the state-run Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and is designed to offer comprehensive capabilities spanning the assembly, testing, and validation of military payloads, communication networks, ground control stations, and anti-drone technologies.

Government officials have characterized the hub as a key center for the research, development, integration, and operational deployment of next-generation unmanned systems for defense applications.
