BAE Systems is evaluating a partnership with Polish defense companies to support the maintenance, repair, and potential local production of the M88A2 Armored Recovery Vehicle in Poland.
The proposed collaboration is intended to enhance lifecycle support for the Polish Army’s M88A2 fleet, which is used to recover heavy armored vehicles, including the M1 Abrams main battle tank. Designed for demanding battlefield operations, the M88A2 can recover disabled vehicles weighing up to 70 tons.
To advance this effort, BAE Systems signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PGZ Capital Group subsidiaries Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. (WZM) and H.CEGIELSKI-POZNAŃ SA (HCP). WZM specializes in the maintenance and overhaul of tracked armored vehicles, while HCP contributes expertise in manufacturing.
The new agreement expands on a 2025 licensing deal between BAE Systems and WZM covering M88A2 maintenance, repair, overhaul, and sustainment, with HCP joining the partnership to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities.
Commenting on the agreement, BAE Systems’ Medland said it reflects the company’s commitment to meeting allied defense requirements through strong local industrial partnerships.
The latest initiative follows another major collaboration between BAE Systems and Poland’s state-owned defense group PGZ to establish a 155mm artillery ammunition production facility capable of manufacturing up to 180,000 shells annually for the Polish Army’s K9 and Krab self-propelled howitzers. That project was recognized with the British-Polish Collaboration Award by the British Embassy in Warsaw and the British Polish Chamber of Commerce in May 2026.
