Astra Microwave Products Limited (AMPL) has reached a major milestone by successfully delivering a strategic naval radar system to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for final testing. The development was announced during the company’s FY26 earnings conference call held on 27 May 2026. The radar, developed over several years, features an advanced Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU) designed for both naval and land-based operations.
The radar is a key addition to India’s indigenous maritime surveillance and air defence capabilities. Engineered for long-range detection, tracking, and engagement of both aerial and surface threats, the system is expected to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Indian Navy’s next-generation warships by strengthening early warning, multi-target tracking, and fire-control capabilities.
The delivery signifies the successful completion of the radar’s development phase and marks the beginning of final integration trials, system validation, and performance testing ahead of its planned induction into service. The project also highlights Astra Microwave’s expanding expertise in designing and manufacturing Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar technologies capable of operating in demanding naval environments.
With this achievement, Astra Microwave further reinforces its role as a leading Development Cum Production Partner (DCPP) for DRDO and the Indian Armed Forces. The successful indigenous development of this mission-critical radar system also supports India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by strengthening domestic capabilities in advanced defence electronics.
