ST Engineering has held the keel-laying ceremony for the Republic of Singapore Navy’s second Victoria-class Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV), to be commissioned as RSS Valour (89). Construction of the vessel began in April 2025, although no additional details of the ceremony were released.
The Victoria-class program envisions up to six advanced warships, each combining the operational capabilities of a modern frigate with the role of an unmanned systems mothership. According to ST Engineering, the new fleet will feature the largest and most technologically advanced naval hulls ever built for Singapore. The contract for the program was awarded in March 2023, followed by the launch of the lead ship, RSS Victory (88), in October 2025.
From 2028 onward, the Republic of Singapore Navy is expected to induct the new warships, which are currently under construction at different stages at ST Engineering’s shipyard in Jurong’s western region. The 150-meter-long, 21-meter-beam MRCVs will be equipped with anti-ship, anti-air, and anti-submarine missiles, a 30mm remote weapon station, and a 76mm naval gun. They will also feature a flight deck, hangar, accommodation for up to 100 personnel, and multiple radar systems for enhanced situational awareness. Propulsion will be provided by a full-electric system using diesel engines and electric motors, enabling speeds above 20 knots and a range of approximately 7,000 nautical miles.
