Spanish defence technology company Indra Sistemas has successfully developed and certified a Ka-band submarine satellite communication terminal, the TSUB-40Ka, designed to significantly enhance data transmission speeds and operational connectivity.

Operating in the higher-frequency Ka-band of the microwave spectrum, the system offers broadband capabilities with data rates exceeding several Mbps, surpassing traditional X-band (military) and Ku-band (civilian) solutions. Its use of shorter wavelengths allows for more compact antenna designs, making it particularly suitable for space-constrained platforms such as submarines.

The TSUB-40Ka combines compliance with military standards (MIL-STD/STANAG) with improved communication performance, providing a strong operational advantage in modern naval environments.

The terminal has been certified by HISDESAT for compatibility with Spain’s next-generation SpainSat NG satellite. This ensures secure, high-capacity communications using sovereign infrastructure, with the satellite supporting X-band, military Ka-band, and UHF frequencies for long-range and mission-critical operations.
