Saab has unveiled the first Gripen F, a twin-seat variant of its latest-generation Gripen fighter, marking a significant milestone in the aircraft’s evolution. Developed in partnership with Brazilian industry, the new platform combines the full combat capabilities of the single-seat Gripen E with an additional cockpit designed for advanced training and mission support.
Despite the added seat, the Gripen F retains the same sensors, avionics, mission systems, and performance characteristics as its single-seat counterpart. The second cockpit enables instructors to participate directly in training flights, providing pilots with a more immersive and operationally realistic learning environment while preserving the aircraft’s frontline combat effectiveness.
