GE Aerospace and Magellan Aerospace are planning to establish a Canadian maintenance, repair, and overhaul center for the F414-GE-39E fighter engine under a new memorandum of understanding supporting future combat aircraft requirements. If the Saab Gripen E is selected for Canada’s next-generation fighter program, the partnership would provide a complete domestic engine sustainment capability supported by licensed technical expertise, dedicated infrastructure, and a skilled Canadian workforce. Local maintenance operations would improve engine availability, strengthen supply chain resilience, and reduce dependence on overseas support throughout the aircraft’s operational life. The collaboration would also expand Canada’s sovereign aerospace capabilities by developing advanced technical expertise and supporting long-term industrial growth within the country’s defense sector. With more than 1,600 F414 engines operating worldwide and millions of accumulated flight hours, the engine has established a strong reputation for reliability, performance, and maintainability, making domestic support an important strategic capability for future Canadian air power.
