L3Harris Technologies has achieved another major milestone for its Viper Shield electronic warfare system after completing its first two-aircraft flight test involving F-16 fighter jets. The achievement brings the system closer to full-rate production for customers across eight nations.
Conducted at Edwards Air Force Base, California, the evaluation marked the first time F-16C and F-16D aircraft operated together while carrying Viper Shield equipment.
The company said the flight demonstrated Viper Shield’s capability to function in realistic multi-aircraft operational scenarios. During the tests, the system was evaluated for its ability to detect, identify, and counter advanced electromagnetic threats in real time.
L3Harris engineers also examined the system’s interaction with F-16 avionics during a range of mission profiles. The testing assessed Viper Shield’s digital architecture, integration capabilities, and responsiveness in demanding electronic warfare conditions.
Production and International Demand
L3Harris is increasing production to support the 233 Viper Shield systems currently planned. The system has already been selected by eight countries, prompting the company to expand its manufacturing line to accommodate rising international demand for advanced F-16 electronic warfare capabilities.
