Lockheed Martin has successfully conducted the first live-fire demonstration of its Kodiak containerized launcher, a system designed to launch Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) munitions from land, air, and maritime platforms.
During the test, the company’s team loaded and fired a Reduced-Range Practice Rocket, a training munition used by HIMARS and M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) crews to rehearse GMLRS and other MLRS Family of Munitions operations.
The Kodiak provides a flexible and cost-effective option for integrating precision-strike capabilities onto platforms that cannot accommodate traditional rocket launchers. Lockheed Martin also highlights its lower-observable profile compared with mobile systems such as HIMARS and the M270A2 MLRS.
Each Kodiak container can accommodate up to 12 GMLRS rockets, enabling scalable precision firepower from a compact platform.
The test follows Lockheed Martin’s earlier demonstration of the Grizzly containerized launcher, which is designed to launch Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles against unmanned aerial threats.
Together, Kodiak and Grizzly demonstrate Lockheed Martin’s strategy of using containerized systems to deliver both offensive strike and defensive capabilities.
