The UK is integrating three technologies into a single capability to help British troops maintain visibility when smoke, dust, and other battlefield obscurants restrict their view.
Working with Amethyst Research and Lancaster University, the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has developed an advanced detector designed to improve soldiers’ ability to see through challenging battlefield conditions.
The system incorporates a thin absorber layer that minimizes unwanted thermal interference. This enables the detector to identify weaker infrared signals while maintaining a high level of precision.
