L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract to modernize several C-130 aircraft for the Royal Moroccan Air Force. The comprehensive upgrade includes avionics enhancements, depot-level maintenance, engine overhauls, and additional support services.
Aimed at boosting operational readiness, the upgrades will improve aircraft availability for missions such as tactical transport, humanitarian relief, and special operations.
The modification work is scheduled to begin this year at L3Harris’ facility in Waco, Texas, and will continue through 2029.
The C-130, known for its rugged design, is capable of operating from austere airstrips, including dirt runways. Its modular configuration supports a wide range of mission profiles—ranging from personnel and equipment transport to medical evacuations and vehicle carriage.
The aircraft can accommodate utility helicopters and six-wheeled armored vehicles, and is equipped with a rear loading ramp and door for effective airdrop missions. It can deliver up to 42,000 pounds (19,000 kilograms) of cargo and features high-flotation landing gear for rough terrain operations.
