French defense company MERIO is developing an airborne laser targeting system that enables unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to mark targets for precision-guided strikes, minimizing the need to expose personnel to frontline risks.
The technology works by “painting” or illuminating targets with a laser, allowing artillery, aircraft, and naval units to engage them with enhanced accuracy.
This innovation underscores the shift toward networked targeting and unmanned coordination in modern combat, where drones serve as the link between surveillance and strike platforms.
