Kuwait has inaugurated a new light ammunition production facility, strengthening its domestic defense industry and enhancing national self-sufficiency.
Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah officially opened the “Nayef Light Ammunition Factory” and activated the production line during the launch ceremony.
According to the government, the facility represents Kuwait’s first ammunition manufacturing initiative within the country and introduces its first production line dedicated to light munitions. The plant was established in compliance with strict safety and quality regulations and adheres to NATO standards for light ammunition production.
The ceremony was attended by senior defense leaders, including Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and high-ranking commanders of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
During his remarks, the prime minister described the factory as a “strategic addition” to Kuwait’s defense capabilities, highlighting its role in modernizing military and security equipment in line with advanced technical standards. He praised the teams responsible for completing the infrastructure and expressed confidence in the personnel who will manage future operations.
Cooperation With China
The factory is expected to collaborate with China North Industries Corporation, also known as NORINCO, a major Chinese state-owned defense enterprise that supports the People’s Liberation Army.
NORINCO CEO Ji Wei stated that the company will continue working closely with Kuwaiti partners to manufacture high-quality ammunition, share technical and managerial expertise, and train national personnel.
Chinese Consul to Kuwait Liu Xiang also attended the event, noting that the project further strengthens ties between China and Kuwait.
